Cherry Preserves

Sold

Celebrating my brother's heavenly birthday today. He was the creative one in our family. He could play music by ear, and his artistic abilities knew no bounds. And he was wickedly funny. We will forever miss his sweet spirit. Happy birthday, Paul! You are so loved!

Still Life with Cherries

Private Collection

In life, these cherries are so plump and pretty (and quite tasty.) Ah, summer...the living is easy!

I hope you're having a great weekend! Stay cool!

Still Life with Temple Bottle and Cherries

May was such a good month with regards to painting. I was fortunate to have my painting "Promise of Spring" selected as a "Judge's Pick" in the Daily Paintworks  monthly contest. And my painting "Three Little 3-Year Olds" was selected as the winner of Contemporary Fine Art International's Spring Juried Show. I am so honored to be included with these inspiring painters, and I wanted to share my good news with you. Please check out their wonderful work!

I hope you have a great weekend! Happy painting!

Still Life with Handmade Bowl and Cherries

Private Collection

Recently, my very sweet and thoughtful niece, Holly, gifted me with this beautiful, handmade bowl. I love it, and I couldn't wait to paint it. So, when I saw that cherries were in season, they felt like a fun fit for it.

This week, I am planning and packing for Abbey Ryan's workshop in Sedona. It will run from May 18 through May 22, 2015. I am so looking forward to a week of painting, painterly fellowship and beautiful Sedona. I will try to take lots of photos for you.

Have a great Monday!

Turquoise Teacup with Rainier Cherries

Another vintage teacup found on a fun day out "antiquing" with my friend Kim. We always find a few treasures, and I couldn't leave this little teacup behind.

I hope your week is off to a great beginning!

Overboard

I finished this painting just as the afternoon light began to fade, so I am posting late.

It was 106ยบ here today. Even Rodeo looked hot. Whew!

I hope you're having a great week!

Still Life with Vintage Pie Bird and Cherries

This little pie bird belonged to my Mom.  No cherry pie seems quite complete without it.  It is one of my favorite treasures.

I hope you are having a great week!

Soulmates

These little Rainier cherries were so fun to paint.  They were the perfect still life subjects for a Friday.

Have a great weekend, everyone!  Let the fun begin!

Starting Line-Up

For some reason, these little cherries remind me of hockey players out on the ice.  Perhaps I'm spending too much time with mineral spirits and not enough ventilation?  Yes, I think so.  Ah, well.  Thanks to Wet Canvas for the photograph!

Have a great evening, everyone!

Escapees

The little cherries look like they have just escaped from the bowl, eh?  And a few more are contemplating the leap?  Run cherries run!  ;)

I'm working with white again this week.  What bugs me the most is that -- in watercolor -- it is my favorite color to interpret.  But with acrylics, I find myself shying away from anything white.  And I'm stumped as to why the mediums feel so differently to me.
